David and the Giant
The horns upon the green rise called out, And the camp of the other arose, From both sides came tremendous shouts, A challenger from the rise to defeat his foes. A great noise was heard from the dark rise, A laugh like thunder rumbled out, Up stood a man, tremendous in size, He was armed and armored ready for the bout. The sun was behind the man from the green. All about him people were heard to cry, Off his body there was no sheen, No armor, visible to any human eye. The devil possessed giant, taking his stride, Thundered down the slope, to the valley between, From the hill ever green, the shouts died, Mortal fear struck all that had seen. A young man, not a noble yet, Was to fight the giant with but a sling, From the black hill came no bet, It was obvious, of this fight, who was to be king, The small man, defiant stood, Ready for the larger, the giant, to attack, Though his body shook , weak as wood, Shivers through his body did wrack. When the large man did advance upon his foe, Mighty God took his arm on earth, David the one, And with the power from His Throne, Armed the sling with a single stone. When the stone was released, and flew against sky blue, The stone struck the giant's head, temple square, And with the felling, all knew he was slew, And David knelt down, thanking God, then and there. The army of green won that fight, taking all, None were left to stop their might, After the giant was killed, and fall, The power once again, to God and Right. |
