A soaring eagle,
A blazing eye,
A screaming hawk,
A vicious cry.
One swooping falcon,
One prey less,
One crying heron,
One fish laid to rest.
Twice the sparrow's call,
Twice a reply far away,
Twice silence over all,
Twice, but twice a day.
Thrice the mocking bird,
Thrice are its mimicking calls,
Thrice, one two three, the third,
Thrice from stone mortared walls..
