The nastiest 48 hours of my life
Two days ago (Tuesday), I got news from my mortgate broker that they were having trouble getting FHA to spot-approve the condo I wanted to buy. There were new rules instituted this past June to protect the FHA loans and that process from what the rest of the mortgage industry was going through - and out of sixteen line items, one was not in the exact specific format the FHA wanted. So no condo for me.
After a day of wailing, gnashing teeth, going to the apartment management complex in tears and telling them that I wouldn’t be moving after all, Wednesday night my parents said that they’d be able to help come up with the additional 10% I needed to have a 20% downpayment. This would actually still get me into this place. That might work, thought I…and then stupid fecking Comcast went down. That meant no cable…but more crucially, no phone or internet. I spent today running around like a fiend, abusing the hospitality of the folks in the apartment management office so that I could use their phone, and finally told my realtor, “If you still want this deal to happen, come on over and bring your cell phone.” He did so, we phoned like mad, and got all the ducks in a row, and tomorrow I will have that additional money in my hand…and tomorrow afternoon, I go sign the closing documents.
So I do get to buy this condo. And I do get to buy it now. And I still get to move before Thanksgiving (even if it’s one day later than originally planned.)
But geez oh pete, that was an ugly two days!!!
