You can rhapsodize about anything if you just apply your mind properly
This week's song comes from Lisa Gerrard's latest, The Silver Tree. It's her first new non-soundtrack album in five years, and it's well worth the wait! This song, Wandering Star, is vaguely reminiscent of the haunting last number in one of Lisa's soundtrack-collaborations, Gladiator: it reminds me of the melody playing at the very end of the film, the song that follows Maximus over the borders of Elysium.
Thursday Thirteen 78::14: Cat Owner Haiku
I'm sure this breaks all sorts of rules regarding the crafting of a proper haiku. (For one point, I think that contractions are disallowed.) Then again, this is all in fun. I know we've got plenty of cat people on this list - add your own!!
- Cats curled against me
in winter is quite cozy
in summer...can't...breathe!!! -
I need to go pee
but I must not move — or I'll
disturb sleeping cats -
Sudden jump — I laugh
cat sits regal, affronted
tries to live it down -
Time to change channels
a cat sits on the remote
....oh, I'll just watch this -
bird squirrel bird bird
crouch, pounce: glass patio door
oh freaking miaow! -
books distract from cats
cats express their displeasure
small holes in pages -
awaken, get up
cool sensation between toes
which one of you hurked?!??

necessary chore
housecleaning is lightened by
chasing cats with vacuums -
4 am. They want
“magical kitty water”
dear god, let me sleep... -
I gave you a treat
I gave you each the same
'forget same — want more!!' -
Purr, knead, chirp, rumble, purr
cat's head turns this way and that...then...
I didn't say you could stop -
I go to the vet
to get the pills my cats need
to go to the vet -
My cats don't need me
but they always want me there
...I think I like that
Note: “magical kitty water” is water straight from the faucet. I first heard a friend use this term: their cat had them trained to provide magical kitty water upon command. Ursa has apparently studied from the same correspondence course...
