CDs transferred to MP3 thus far: all artists A - C (Alphaville, Azam Ali, Art of Noise, Afro Celt Sound System Anonymous 4, Anuna, the Benzedrine Monks of Santo Domonico, Kate Bush, Clannad, Collective Soul, a couple of soundtracks, Cirque du Soleil) and U - Z (U2, Vangelis, Vas, Suzanne Vega, Warren Zevon). Plus Niyaz. And the soundtrack to Labyrinth. Oh shush, who said I had to be 100 per cent linear? That was more of a suggestion.

Books read since November: Jane Lindskold’s Child of a Rainless Year, a wonderful book; Diana Paxton’s The Hallowed Isle ...uh… quadrology volumes 2, 3, and 4 (sent to me for Christmas, along with the Dagoba xocolotl, by a good friend.)

Feeling about work: cautiously less pessimistic. The new project manager started on Monday, and this individual translates between trench-grunts and High-Level Boss Dude. I am actually doing things, and no longer feel quite so much like I’m robbing the company. (All projects have downtime; and the winter holidays — with all their attendant regular days off and longer vacations by other co-workers — are never the most productive of times. But I was sitting around surfing the web, for pity’s sake. And being moved from cube to cube. In six weeks, I was moved four times. How’s that for nonstick?!?? But, dammit, I took the good monitor, and the good phone, and since facilities couldn’t find the keys to the locks in the new cube, they switched the locks so that I, in my high-traffic area, do not have to leave my things loose when I leave for the day / weekend. Poor facilities guy has been called in three times to get me keys to my “new cube”.)

Currently listening to: Niyaz. This group, comprised of Azam Ali and Loga Ramin Torquian, mixes classical Indian poetry and Urdu folksongs with electronic and acoustical instrumentation to create some really spellbinding music. I’ve been repeatedly playing The Hunt and Dilruba while I burn my CDs.

And I have a weekend staring me in the face. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Now that the paychecks have been coming in, the money situation is much better. As could be guessed from my purchase of an MP3 player last week. I am nothing if not inconsistent.)

When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I think only how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong. — R. Buckminster Fuller
