Clearance Level: RedProgress Report, Chaptre the Third

Some people celebrate by shopping for themselves. I shop for my cats.

This weekend I’ll be learning JavaScript, in preparation for the new gig (which starts a week from Monday). Today, it’s raining: no thunder, no hail, just rain…and plenty of it. The A/C installation is doing just fine, no rain leaking around the edges. I went and got myself some breakfast, then stopped and got flea goop and a soft cat bed. Lately, Fog’s been passive-aggressively pushing Ursa out of all his favorite sleeping and sitting spots and appropriating them for herself. I decided to get Ursa a soft cat bed so that he’d have someplace warm, soft, and fluffy. He loved it, climbed right in and investigated it the moment I got home and put it down on the floor.

Ten minutes later, I heard squalling and saw Fog engaged in her first takeover…and Ursa protesting vocally. It wasn’t doing much good, as a) possession is nine-tenths of the law; b) Fog was sitting in the cat bed; and 3) Ursa’s a bit too easygoing to really do anything to get Fog out of his bed, anyway. I scolded Fog (which had about as much effect as you’d expect), lifted her out of the cat bed, and carried her into the bedroom and set her on the bed. I puttered around, made my coffee, cleaned up the kitchen, turned on the heat, and saw a black cat sitting serenely in the cat bed. Since I hadn’t heard any complaints, I assumed that Ursa had maintained the cat-bed seat.

No…not precisely. Fog had usurped Ursa’s place once again; and Ursa had headed off to sit on the bed (where, for once, he wouldn’t be moved.)

I picked up Ursa, startled Fog out of the cat bed, and moved the bed over near the floor heater. Then I set Fog down near it. He now had a warm, soft, fluffy place to sleep that was near the heater. (I figured he’d fight for that. This past winter I often found him sitting as close as he possibly could to the floor heaters. A few times, I was worried that he’d burn his skin. He’s feeling the cold a bit more, now that he’s nearing a decade.) It’s been twenty minutes and…well, see for yourself:

Random Quote [??]

There was once a time when the church controlled the government. The laws of the church were the laws of the land. Belief in God was strong, teachings of the church were rarely questioned. This time was called The Dark Ages.
