They find me useful. I find them amusing. It's an arrangement.
I got two more strings of blue icicle lights, and have them hanging up to fall into their proper shape. Tomorrow, I'll put one of these new strings outside (with one of the old, shorter strings - so that it stretches around the whole patio) and find some way to hang the other string inside.
Since I was feeling poorly this holiday, I stayed home and slept...and watched movies...and played with the cats...and took photos.
Ursa has a habit of sitting on the top level of the cat tower with his arms hanging over the edge like a washerwoman hanging over a fence gossipping. Any appeals to his feline dignity are met with the same disdainful stare: he is doing this thing; and therefore it is dignified. (So there.)
When not sitting on top of the tower, Ursa sits in the central box. It lets him see without being seen, and since the other two cats rarely climb the tower let alone sit in it, Ursa pretty much has it to himself.
I got a few shots of Ursa sitting on the corrugated box...but his patience was definitely wearing thin.
Ursa and Fog initially didn't quite know what to make of each other, but they've bonded pretty well. Fog will often walk up to Ursa and just start grooming him, washing behind his ears and over his forehead. This is in marked contrast to how Fog and Monkey get along.
Over the two years since I've brought Fog into the home, they've settled into an uneasy detente: when Monkey comes close to Fog, the latter will freeze, waiting for Monkey to reach out and swat her (which is what she often does). If they have something sufficiently interesting and plentiful — say, food or catnip — to occupy their attention, they won't necessarily break the peace, but they will watch each other fairly carefully.
Every time I stand up from the computer chair, Fog jumps up and claims it as her own.
And unlike Ursa, Fog loves having her picture taken. The first time I took a photo of her, she actually sat still and looked straight at the camera. She all but held up a sign that read, “I'm ready for my closeup now.”
