Clearance Level: RedIteration One: Pieces In Place

First iteration

There's a lot to do when setting up a new site. When setting up a new community...the to-do list multiplies.

A lot.

Still, I don't think I did too badly. No major bumps until about 10 hours before the kickoff — I even found an actual domain last night, and got the nameservers updated. There are a few things I didn't quite wrap up, though:

Iterations (the portal)Iteration 02/28/2007: Pieces in place (mostly)

  1. Random writing prompts. I'm leaning toward an utterly random list of ideas, phrases, words, and images.
  2. Header graphics. I have the one small image, and am hunting royalty-free fractals to use in the other header images
  3. Different themes, games, activities. How does one set 'theme' a month sound? The rest of the time...use your imaginations.
  4. The site feed. I know that it's possible to include formatting (as opposed to raw HTML) in RSS feeds. I just haven't quite figured out how to do that yet.
  5. Featured sites. I don't know if I'll choose a set number of featured sites per iteration, do a lump featuring at the end of a month, or use a different format.
  6. Publicity. Iterations is already registered with a few directories; but a few more couldn't hurt.
  7. I'm not completely satisfied with the design...but it's CSS driven, so I can tweak it fairly easily. (I just need to figure out how I want to change it...)
  8. I did manage to get a domain name. (I own far too many of those...)
  9. Fix the member templates. They're currently pretty ugly.
  10. Figure out CSS-column auto-wrapping (and pray that it isn't just CSS3). I'd like to list portal members' sites with the textual title, not just their avatar.
  11. Did I mention I don't love the site design? It's a little too plain. I like how the logo came out; but the text presentation could use some assistance.
  12. I'll put up a real list on my site...after I've had some sleep, that is! (It's such fun when everything's working smoothly...then all of a sudden, comments won't display and your eyes are crossing trying to debug your code. Yayz.)
