Yesterday was my last day at Le Job. I worked four hours of overtime. It would have been longer; but realistically, they didn’t have anything ready for me to actually do, and I wasn’t too keen on the idea of sitting there semi-idle for four more hours until they ported things over to the new server…at which point I’d get to go fix all the lame little bugs and tweakles. These problems came about, doubtless, because of a lack of time + poor communications. The boss-person often referred to the remote-location developers as ‘knuckleheads’. Now while I’m not a huge fan of web developers whose sole tool is DreamWeaver and while I don’t have a really high professional opinion of these remote-location developers’ resulting work, I find it hard to believe that boss-person is blameless in this situation. I’m guessing that a huge rush plus poor communications didn’t help things. Yet BP referred to these remote-location developers as ‘knuckleheads’ more than once. I am glad that I’m no longer there.

Tomorrow, I go on an interview for a new Le Job. It’s a web developer position at a large, rather respected company. This company has an office in the Seattle area, so if this turns out well I may be able to keep this gig when I move up to Seattle (which — who knows — may happen this coming autumn rather than next spring.) Here’s hoping!!

Today, I am doing my laundry. Then I am sitting and reading. I have one book to finish (C J Cherry’s Faded Sun) and another to start (Snow White, Blood Red - thanks she!), plus good cookies to enjoy. If a store in your area is currently carrying Peppridge Farm amaretto Rialto cookies (chocolate cookies with amaretto-chocolate filling), think about getting yourself a bag. (Or two.)

This coming week I have plenty of things to do to keep busy. I’ve got interviews to schedule, prep for, and go on. I’ve got some minor web site updates. I need to start prepping my promo materials for August - this August marks five years in business, and I’m going to try a mini marketing blitz and see if the five-years-in-business combined with my sense of humor can net me a few new signups. I want to kick my billing system software, hard, and see if it won’t then behave properly. I want to write some more tutorials for the support sites, and possibly get around to launching the business blog. (I started this about seven months ago, but then went headlong into the jobsearch-Le Job-jobsearch cycle. I haven’t even gotten a decent design put together…and, really, that’s all I’ve got to do. Just get a damn template up, and start blogging. But nooooooooo. I’ve got to be picky about it. Meh.) Later this month, I’ll be working at a training-ride for the AIDS Lifecycle - I’ve signed up to work registration and opening day again this year, as well as a ‘dress rehearsal’ training-ride event.

But all of that starts tomorrow. Today, the laundry…followed by a good chunk of ‘me’ time. It’s all about the balance.

Say what you will about the Ten Commandments, you must always come back to the pleasant fact that there are only ten of them. — H. L. Mencken
