Why this couldn't wait for my second week, I'll never know.
Yesterday I tagged along with Mom while she went shopping - they’re taking a trip to Europe in a week, and she’s been going nuts trying to find something comfortable, stylish, easy-care, and low-cost to wear on the 12-hour plane trip. We went out to breakfast, went to about five different stores, dodged out an alternate exit because two guys in body paint were “advertising” near the exit closest to the car (don’t ask me what they were advertising, I wasn’t buying), and all in all spent three hours at the mall. This is not exactly a restful situation. When I got home, I took a two hour nap.
This morning when I woke up, my neck was hurting…but my glands didn’t feel swollen. I grabbed a flashlight and checked my throat…and saw white spots on one side of my throat. I’ll have to visit my GP on Monday and have them run tests just to be sure, but I’ve seen this often enough to be fairly sure what it is: strep throat. Just what I need just as I’m about to begin a new job. (Then again, that does explain the two-hour nap yesterday.)
It’s kind of a good thing that I won’t be starting tomorrow. The agency contacted me on Friday, saying that they hadn’t received the purchase order yet. I would be concerned; but also on Friday I had lunch with several former co-workers, including one who is now a regular employee at this company. He said that the company takes quite a long time to get all its ducks in a row. (Still, if I haven’t started work by next Wednesday, I’m going to be something of a pest and tell the agency to get me at least four hours of work in the month of April. I want to start my new health insurance by June - which means that I have to work at least one day in April, and all through May.)
Now, for something completely different: go wish Pseudotherapy’s daughter a happy birthday.
