Clearance Level: RedFrom behind memory’s glass: Thanksgiving then and now

Have a happy Starch Fest, everyone!

1 of 1 pages

The night before Thanksgiving, I’d help my mom set out slices of bread to dry overnight. The next day, I’d sit in front of the TV watching the Macy’s parade while tearing the bread into small pieces for use in the stuffing. This combined two great childhood loves: watching cartoon characters on TV, and playing with food. Good times…

This year, the night before Thanksgiving, I went to the grocery to get the lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, and green beans (in an effort to keep today’s meal from being All Starch All The Time, I am contributing sauteed green beans and a salad

), then came home and listened to the Firefly marathon2 on SciFi while doing the dishes.

1: I’m also bringing rolls. Because…yo. Starch. Must bring and contribute starch.
2: I have Firefly on DVD (in widescreen — yay Joss, you subversive thing you3) so I wasn’t missing anything.
3: Fox originally told Joss Whedon not to film any of the Firefly shows in widescreen. He made absolutely sure that every episode included at least one wide-angle shot. He’s got that kind of hearty “hi-ho fuck you” sensibility.

Ah, Easter. The holiday that celebrates Jesus being reborn and coming out of his cave to see if there will be six more weeks of winter.
