Everything happens at once. Again.
My initial meeting with the recruiters…went oddly. When I got in there was a very, very brief spate of comments about the job for which I originally contacted this agency. Instead I was told of their efforts to build a managed-services division run by the agency, and how they were considering me for that.
I was less than thrilled about what seemed like a bait-and-switch operation. I had not heard a word about this idea before this point; and while it does sound like a good way for the subject company to save money, it means that any contractors working for this managed-services arm essentially would be on-site at the subject company, but even more segregated from the subject company’s other employees. The managed-service workers would have different supervisors, different scheduling requirements, different freedoms…and since this would be a managed-services setup, we would be doing a certain type of work for all the departments of the subject company. And yet instead of a slight increase in rate for multitasking like a maniac, I would be getting the same maximum rate. AND I would not be able to work out any kind of relocation or outsourcing deal when I move to Seattle.
I’m a little unsettled because just after I go through my interviews, my dad will be undergoing electrocardioversion. That’s essentially stopping his heart, then restarting it. It’s being done because a part of his heart keeps determinedly trying to beat faster and faster. So here’s hoping that everything goes well Thursday, for me and for my dad.
