Might as well try seeing if I can stomach it.
I’ve tried signing up for a number of services:
BlogForProfit — too restrictive in what words they want you to use for linking; little advertiser variety; currently trying to push the plastic surgery posts {I signed up for, tried, and quit this program}.
PayPerPost — hasn’t approved my blog yet; their bidding / signup / approval process isn’t the most intuitive. A few decent opportunities that aren’t solely asking for cheerleaders. I’m in the “pending” queue on this one.
blogwhore — this could be interesting. They’re basically looking to set themselves up as an ultra-low-cost way for advertisers to rent space on blogs. The signup and approval process is very straightforward, the site design is clean, the text has no typos, and yet the site doesn’t scream “Web 2.0!!!”.
All posts made for BlogForProfit (except for one, which was actually to an interesting site) have been removed, and I refunded their trial-run money. I probably could have kept it; but since I wasn’t going to continue with their program and since I wasn’t planning on leaving those links up, back it went. I’m still waiting to hear from PayPerPost (which seems to be quite popular these days) and blogwhore (with whom I only just registered). When I start making paid posts, I’ll tag them as such.
And I promise not to use the “consumer whore” tag.
EDIT: PPP rejected the blog because I changed the blog’s name, and primary domain, three years ago; yet I have both the old and new domain names pointing to the same files. It’s not the same content, it’s the same site, same IP, same account…whatever. So no sponsored posting here, just my own opinions. Click on the affiliate links, buy your books, let me rack up credit toward a new CSS reference or more Tepper books or who knows what.
