Clearance Level: RedDisplacement trauma and retail therapy

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

When the weekend started on Friday, I went to the store to get some catnip mice for the kitties. They’re putting up with all this disarrangement and being this good, I reasoned, they should get toys. So lo, I got three refillable mice with vials of catnip. And then I wandered over to the vacuum cleaners, and thought about my four-year-old, under-$50 vacuum that had definitely seen better days. I specced out a couple, and decided to do more research online back at the hotel. Then I thought about some other things I needed. And, of course, with a grocery store so close I decided to get some bottled water, a box of crackers, maybe a little bag of cookies. I got those things PLUS single-serving applesauce PLUS a box of donughts (this was before I registered the fact that the hotel serves complimentary continental sit-down breakfast to all guests) PLUS some white cran-peach juice PLUS some Snickers Charged bars - with added caffeine, taurine, and B vitamins. (I was curious about how they tasted, and they were on the two-for-a-dollar rack.) The white cran-peach was wonderful. The Snickers bars were disgusting. (Now I know why they were on that two-for-a-dollar rack. Eugh..!!!) The next day I didn’t go out, except to walk down to the KFC to get dinner. The next day, I checked out, dropped the cats off at home, took down the plastic...and got white dust all over my guidebag. And it won’t come off!!! I headed back to the department store, got the vacuum, picked up a sponge holder/drainer, got two squeeze/travel bottles, and headed to Mall Number One - where I could find a luggage store that just might have a replacement for my guide bag. That store didn’t, but suggested two others that might. I headed down the mall, stopping in at one of those accessories-shops to pick up some earring-backings. (I bought a pair of very nice teardrop earrings; but the backings apparently contain nickel and irritate the hell out of my lobes.) I spotted the (cheap) makeup palettes, and was reminded that my current eyeshadow palette is getting a bit low. So off to Sephora, where I snagged one eye shadow palette (with foundation, blushes, and lip gloss pots), one retractable blush brush, one nice eyeshadow brush, and a retractable lip brush (I couldn’t find a retractable eyeshadow brush. I did look, though.) I also got some mineral foundation powder, two lipsticks, waterproof mascara, concealer, and some manicure tools.

I have fallen into the deep sucking pit that is Sephora. Help me!

As if this wasn’t enough, I still had to find a replacement guide bag. I headed to a department store, checked out their handbag and luggage sections, and no dice. I did find some nice earrings, though. Five pairs, to be precise. To go with all the new skirts I got on my trip down to California, of course. But I still needed that guide bag. Well, there are more malls, and the house still smells slightly of fumes - I’ll go hit another mall closer to home. This one had an REI, which -=still=- did not have the guide bag - or its possible successor, the messenger bag. (I may have to go downtown and visit the Mother Ship, the Big Huge REI Superstore. Downtown traffic unnerves me.) I did find a much smaller bag, perfect for DragonCon where all I’ll need is a small amount of cash, my room key, and possibly a note pad and pen.

Update: Yay! Someone’s here caulking the tub!! I finally got exasperated, put down painter’s tape, and took my damn shower. The caulking will take at least 24 hours to dry - so I’m glad I did that. I’ve got a play to go see tonight, and I’d like to not have to wander over and borrow my friend’s shower. That’s just...weird.

And I still haven’t had my coffee, damnit.
