Grab the desserts or lose out entirely.
This is the way it works: the clients come in and spend a day poring over their filing statements, facts, and figures. They quite often order a buffet so that their people get fed without having to stop working on the statements, facts, and figures. Once the clients have had a few hours to eat, the rest is given to us. They get theirs, then we get ours. There are more “we”s than “they”s, so while everything is first-come-first-served, there’s a kind of unspoken rule to leave a little bit for everyone.
Today I’m third in line. The tempura I pass without a twinge. I put down some rice: not too much, since there isn’t that much left. I top it with a little bit of teriyaki beef. Then, a few pieces of teriyaki chicken. There’s plenty of teri.chicken today, but no sense in being grabby. I add some salad to my plate as the kitchen folk bring in that bowl. Again, not much, but enough for everyone to have a little bit. Next in is the dessert plate. There are three chocolate tortes and a single piece of cheesecake.
A. Single. Piece.
Fsck sharing.
(Hey. This is cheesecake we’re talking about here. Priorities, people.)
