Trust me!! You'll like them!!
When I went to DragonCon two years ago, I passed a booth selling coffee. (Yes, coffee vendors at a science fiction convention. Science fiction geeks and gamers of all stripes are huge caffeine fiends.) The aromas were amazing. In the end, though, I ended up not buying anything because I had little spending money with me that year. I had planned a good-sized "spending" budget, but a friend of mine saw some earrings that she really really liked, and since she didn't have the spare cash to purchase them I bought them for her as a gift. That, along with the two skirts and two tee shirts I bought, pretty much wiped out my non-food spending budget.) I took a business card to remember the name of the business. I tried purchasing some coffee from them through their web store, but I had so many problems with the ordering process that I mentally wrote it off as a lost cause - promising myself that I'd get some at the next DragonCon.
That didn't happen, for a number of reasons. It also didn't happen the year after that, primarily because I was so frantic with my advertising and volunteering for security (the department was REALLY understaffed that year), that I forgot about them again. And then I saw a post by someone saying that they were under new management and that their web ordering process had improved greatly. So off I went to drool, wish the internet came with selective smell-o-surfing, and placed my order. Now I just have to wait for the coffee to arrive!!
The vendor is Coffee Shop of Horrors, and all their coffees are thematically named. Don't be put off by the names, though: just read the descriptions. I've ordered the following:
- Shock-O-Rama — a medium-dark roasted Colombian blend flavored with the rich, sweet taste of caramel creme. Naturally elevated caffeine content.
- Zombie Dirt — modeled after the northern Italian style centered in Milan, this blend of Latin American and African Espressos produces a smooth, sweet espresso shot with a rich crema. Dark roast.
- Zombia AA — a sweet, mildly acidic coffee with an earthy flavor. Medium roast.
- Mystery Manor — medium-roasted Colombian beans and vanilla cinnamon flavoring.
- Netherworld Haunted House — the mildness of medium-roasted Central American coffees and dark roasted Indonesian beans to produce a full-bodied coffee with a nutty tone. Medium roast. Naturally elevated caffeine content.
- Witches Brew — a superbly aromatic coffee with a heavy body and bright acidity. Medium roast.
This is my birthday splurge, my gift to myself. And if you're interested in trying them out, you can get the coffee in ground or whole bean bags, in 1/2 pound or 1 pound quantities. They also offer free priority shipping for larger orders (over $70) and have a coupon for 10% off your first order.
I can hardly wait for this to get here...! I can still remember how the coffee smelled.
